Closing Time

It’s a sad time here at Advanced Spa And Pool.

It’s time for us to pull out all of our winter covers, gizzmos, air pillows and winter chemicals. It is for you, too! As much as we don’t want summer to end, it will soon. Take some steps to ensure that your pool opening in the spring is as easy as possible.

Clean your pool! We know that you just want to be done with the brushing and vacuuming and scooping but it is so important to get all the dirt and leaves out of the pool before closing. If leaves are left in the pool over the winter, they can stain your pool surface.

Balance your pool water! Just because you’re going to be closing up soon does not mean that you don’t need to continue testing and balancing. Leaving your pool with high or low pH, low chlorine, low alkalinity or low calcium hardness for months over the winter can damage the pool. There’s also a better chance that you’ll open up to a swamp.

Clean your filter! Don’t leave your cartridge, sand or DE filter dirty over the winter. It will degrade the life of your filter media. Use BioGuard Strip Kwik and Kleen It to clean any filter.

Add the appropriate winter chemicals! This is very important. The winter kits and winter chemicals are NOT the same as your weekly maintenance chemicals. They may do the same thing, but they are formulated much differently to withstand the winter temperatures. Add the BioGuard Arctic Blue Winter Kit according to the size of your pool 24 hours before you or our service experts close your pool.

All of us at Advanced Spa and Pool have enjoyed working with you all, old friends and new. We hope you have a happy and safe winter, and look forward to seeing you in the spring! We thank you for your loyalty and again, for voting us the best in our industry!

Heavy Metal Pool

Do you have a heavy metal pool?

If you have a high level of metals in your water, your pool will not be rockin’. High copper, manganese, and iron can stain pool surfaces, discolor the water, and even turn your hair funny colors. (Copper is the culprit of green hair, NOT chlorine.) So, how are metals removed?

Metal removal is an easy-peasy 3 part process.

Step 1. Pool Magnet® Plus

Add directly to pool water to prevent and remove stains. This is a highly concentrated formula that is easy to apply
and eliminates discolored water from metals.

Step 2. Sparkle Up®

This is a filter enhancer with an affinity for metals that you put right into the skimmer. Sparkle Up can be used with
any filter type. Leave Sparkle Up in the filter for 24 hours, or until the filter reaches maximum pressure, then backwash. Repeat until metals are gone.

Step 3. Kleen It®

Use Kleen it to remove all the metals from
your filter to ensure they are not re-introduced to the pool. Kleen It cleans DE, Sand and Cartridge filters by a spray or soak application. Give us a call if you are unsure of the most efficient way to use Kleen It for your filter type.

**Before you start planning your KISS themed pool party, bring a water sample in to the experts at Advanced Spa And Pool to make sure all the metals have been removed. Rock on with no metals this season!

Pool Opening Tips and Chemicals

Time to open your pool! Finally!

We know that it’s been a long winter, and if you are unsure of the best pool opening techniques to keep your pool crystal clear all summer, it’s okay. We’ve got your back!

Opening your pool can be really simple with some tips from Advanced Spa And Pool!

  1. Remove the cover. If you have a solid cover start draining the water off the cover as soon as the ice melts. Then a week or so before the big day scoop and leaves and debris off, and pump the rest of the water off the cover.  Let nature dry the cover off and when you remove the cover it will slide off with the greatest of ease!
  2. Fill the pool to ½ way up the skimmer faceplate
  3. Remove all winter plugs and expansion devices from the inlets and outlets
  4. Install return eyes, flapper doors (weirs) and baskets
  5. Tighten all unions and install drain plugs on the filtration system
  6. Prime the pump and FIRE IT UP! Look for any leaks and address if necessary.
  7. Install any remaining accessories to the pool

  1. Apply the recommended dose of shock and algaecide as well as chlorine sticks to the skimmer and circulate for 2-3 days. Backwash/clean the filter.

*9.  Bring a sample of pool water to Advanced Spa And Pool and “Balance” your pool water

  1. Once the pool is clear vacuum any bottom debris, brush the walls, and backwash/clean the filter again

*You are now ready to continue on your “once a week” (3) step system to maintain crystal clear, safe, sanitary, and most importantly comfortable swimming pool water.

For optimum results add a maintenance dose of Bioguard Pool Complete to remove contaminates, phosphates, and to maintain sparkling clear pool water.

Now jump in!

Add Optimizer Plus to your pool after you open for a stress free, algae free summer- GUARANTEED!

Hot Tub Season is Upon Us!

I don’t know about all of you, but when it starts getting chilly outside I just can’t wait to get into the hot tub. If you are just opening it, there are a few steps to take to make sure your spa is safe to being soaking in again.

  1. You’ll need to clean out those jets. Whether you drain the tub for the winter or keep the water in, you’ll need to clean all the gunk out of your jets from the previous season. We recommend Leisure Time’s Jet Clean for this job.

Application: JetClean

  • Remove the filter. Very Important!! You’ll also need to clean the filter before putting it
back into fresh water. Now while you’re waiting would be the best time to do so. Use SpaGuard Filter Cleaner and let soak for 15-30 minutes before rinsing.
  • Add 16 oz. jet clean to a full warm spa. For those of you who do empty your spa for the winter, you’ll need to fill the tub and let it heat up.
  • Run the jets for 15 minutes.
  • Turn off the jets for 1 hour.
  • Run the jets for 15 minutes to blow all of the dirt and grime out of the lines.
  • Drain the spa and clean the tub while draining with BioGuard Off The Wall or Spa Guard Spa Mitts and rinse.
  • Re-fill, test and balance to begin your SpaGuard chemical program.

2. Balance your new spa water! Add your sanitizer and shock and test the pH, alkalinity, and calcium to ensure a safe environment for both your soakers and your equipment.

Don’t forget- We offer free water testing at our convenient location in Hudson, NH! Bring your spa water to the BioGuard Water Care Experts!

3. Enjoy your clean, fresh spa!
